How to Evaluate a Viral Paranormal Video

A calm checklist for origin, editing, environment, and claims before you share.

A frightening clip can be emotionally convincing long before its source is known. Good evaluation preserves curiosity while slowing the leap from image to conclusion.

01

Find the earliest upload

Reposts remove captions, dates, and context. Reverse-search frames and compare compression artifacts.

Ask whether the uploader witnessed the event or is narrating material from elsewhere.

02

Test ordinary mechanisms

Check reflections, autofocus, insects near the lens, audio overlays, cuts, and off-screen prompts.

An unexplained remainder means evidence is incomplete, not that a supernatural cause wins by default.

03

Match confidence to evidence

Separate what the pixels show from what the caption claims.

Protect locations and people from harassment, and do not turn private grief into entertainment.

Keep this: Trace provenance, test alternatives, and leave uncertainty visible.

A practical three-step check

  1. Write one fact you observed without adding an interpretation.
  2. Name the strongest emotion, cultural context or sleep factor involved.
  3. Choose one small, safe action—and seek qualified help when sleep, distress or safety is affected.
