Theodoric’s Last Hunt at Ravenna
Later Italian tellings imagine Theodoric drawn onto a black horse that cannot be stopped. The animal carries him through the countryside toward a fiery end, while the king’s hunt becomes a supernatural reckoning rather than a royal triumph.

Theodoric was a historical ruler who died at Ravenna in 526. The unstoppable horse and infernal hunt belong to medieval literary and visual tradition; they are not evidence about the circumstances of his death.
