Mythic Journey · 10 min

The Cartographer of Unfinished Roads

A mapmaker drew only roads people abandoned, believing one of them would lead to the brother who never returned.

Original fiction · Dream Noir Guide

Every cancelled journey left a silver line on Ishan’s blank maps, ending where courage, money, weather, or hope had failed.

01

The longest broken line

One road carried his brother’s name into the northern salt hills and stopped at an ink-black ravine.

Ishan followed it with tools and provisions, but each night the map added routes belonging to strangers who had also turned back.

02

A bridge of explanations

At the ravine he found no prisoner, only a shelter his brother had built for lost travellers before choosing a new life across the border.

A letter explained that silence had begun as shame and hardened into a road neither brother knew how to cross.

03

The first completed map

Ishan did not erase the abandoned route. He drew a bridge, a post office, and two possible directions from it.

His brother returned months later by choice. The map became useful because it showed repair without pretending the first road had never ended.

An unfinished path can become honest guidance when it records both the break and the choices beyond it.
