The House That Collected Sunsets

A house stored every beautiful evening its owner refused to enjoy, until the rooms became too bright to live in.

Original fiction · Dream Noir Guide

Whenever Leela said she was too busy for the sky, the unused sunset folded itself through the letterbox.

01

Rooms of postponed colour

Orange light filled cupboards, violet pooled under beds, and red horizons pressed behind the wallpaper. Leela promised to appreciate them after the next deadline.

Visitors admired the glow but could not sit comfortably; the stored beauty had become another possession requiring management.

02

The night without darkness

One evening the house could hold no more. Every saved sunset opened at once, erasing shadows and making clocks impossible to read.

Leela understood that she had confused preserving an experience with having it.

03

An open western window

She released the colours through the roof and kept only a small unlit room for rest. The next evening she watched for ten minutes, then returned to her work without photographing the sky.

The house became ordinary again, which allowed each new sunset to be temporary and therefore visible.

An experience cannot always be saved for later; attention has value precisely because the moment passes.
