The Station That Remembered Names

Every midnight, an abandoned platform announced one passenger who had forgotten why they came.

Original fiction · Dream Noir Guide

Mira found the station only in dreams, but the brass ticket in her coat was real each morning.

01

The last platform

The clocks showed different hours and no train appeared on the tracks. A cracked speaker whispered names into the fog, each followed by a destination no map contained.

On the seventh night it said her mother’s name. Mira stepped toward the edge, clutching the ticket stamped RETURN BEFORE WAKING.

02

A passenger without luggage

Her mother waited beneath the dead timetable, younger than Mira remembered. She did not ask to be followed. She asked why Mira had stopped singing after the funeral.

The station brightened as Mira answered. It had not summoned the dead; it had built a room from the conversation grief had interrupted.

03

The morning train

A bell rang. Mira tore the ticket in half and placed one piece in her mother’s palm. The platform dissolved before either could promise another meeting.

At sunrise the remaining half was blank. Mira opened the old piano, sang badly and kept singing until memory no longer felt like a locked station.

Some doors in dreams are not invitations to escape, but chances to return to life.
